Summary: Editorial Director for to manage the editorial team and contribute to the development of its recently relaunched website. Responsible for the WTA’s editorial voice and output, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced journalist who has worked on a busy editorial team and wants to further their career working in the fast-paced world of women’s tennis.

Reports to: Managing Editor
Supervisory Responsibilities: Website editors and freelance contributors

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day running of the WTA website, delivering comprehensive coverage of all on and off-court action from around the globe
  • Oversee a range of high-quality editorial content, including match reports, breaking news, feature articles, historical pieces, photo galleries and videos
  • Oversee editorial strategy on the website and ensure the standard, tone and style represents one of the world’s leading sports leagues
  • Manage the web team, including full-time web editors and freelance contributors
  • Create and manage a monthly and yearly content plan and set schedule across multiple
    time zones and tournaments. Goals and objectives to align with the head of digital content
  • Generate new ideas to promote the WTA’s players and tournaments across multiple
    platforms, notably the website
  • Utilize social media, SEO and other digital tools to help increase the sport’s outreach via
    the website and grow the WTA’s online audience
  • Work alongside other departments and external stakeholders to create content to
    showcase WTA events and storylines

Desired skills and background:

  • University education in Journalism, Digital Media, Communications, Marketing or equivalent background
  • 10+ years of previous experience in journalism, digital environment and / or tennis / sports entertainment
  • Strong editorial judgement, writing & sub-editing skills, and a track record for successfully managing a digital product portfolio
  • Setting a strategic editorial vision for the website and the experience of managing a team of writers
  • Understanding of digital storytelling and optimization of content through social media and SEO, with proven ability to engage with audiences and build communities on different platforms
  • The ability to generate and implement new editorial ideas that can be rolled out across multiple platforms
  • Digitally savvy – experience using CMS, website programming and other publishing tools. Knowledge of web design also preferred.
  • Highly competent in using business software such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Must possess outstanding organizational skills and the capability to manage multiple
    demands and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of professionalism and the ability to work well within an international team of
    stakeholders across multiple time zones
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willing to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Fluent in English – other languages desirable
  • Knowledge of professional tennis or other leading sports leagues
